Educere tutoring for the academic edge. Read some comments from our students and parents:

“My son worked with an Educere tutor to prepare for the ACT exam his senior year in high school. He definitely looked forward to his tutoring sessions twice a week and made great progress.”

“Educere has been great for my daughter. They are very flexible. She has a standing appointment time each week, but if she has a test, they reschedule to help her prepare for that test.”

“My son is ADD and has a hard time concentrating in the classroom because of all the noise. Educere has a quiet one-on-one setting that enables my son to feel comfortable, calm down, and listen to the tutor.”

“I have discovered a great tutoring place right in our neighborhood! The staff is helpful and highly qualified.”

In May 2012 this page will have the reading lists for the summer of 2012

Summer Reading Lists for 2011

Many schools require summer reading lists for their students. The students are to read one or more books, usually for English classes and be ready for discussions and taking tests based on knowledge of the books. Some schools require students to bring back to school essays and/or written responses to questions about the books. The essay topics and questions are generally found in the schools’ websites. Some of the reading lists for schools on the west side of Houston can be found here

Educere’s tutors are ready to help students understand the books, answer questions and develop essays. Our tutors will not answer the questions or write essays for students, but will lead, guide and mentor students.

Some of the titles

The Life of Pi, All Quiet on the Western Front, Inherit the Wind, 1984, Freakonomics, The Kite Runner, Joy Luck Club, A Separate Peace, Black Hawk Down, Al Capone Does My Shirts, Alas Babylon, The Book Thief, Far From the Maddening Crowd, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, The Confessions of Nat Turner, The Grapes of Wrath

Types of essays and questions students must answer during the summer

Some questions are simply about the events in the books. Others ask about the motives and feelings of the characters. Students are asked to compare characters and analyze their relationships. Some instructions are to write annotations including remarks about style, figurative language, characterization, or foreshadowing. Some students are asked to write about stylistic elements, word choice, mood, tone, imagery, language strategies, or character development. Students in some schools are asked to keep a reading log.
